solutions that work for you

Are you experiencing cash flow problems, reimbursement delays, or increases in outstanding claims?

Plante & Moran can provide a critical assessment of your current revenue cycle processes. We can help you pinpoint specific areas where procedures are not in line with registration, billing, and collections policies, as well as identify inefficiencies that are causing cash flow problems or reimbursement delays, and sources of patient dissatisfaction.

The Revenue Cycle Assessment provides:

  • Application of performance metrics to significant functions of the Revenue Cycle operation to benchmark against best practices.
  • Identification of performance barriers in staff skill level, information systems or resource availability.
  • Presentation of the opportunities in a cost/benefit format for management.

The project is accomplished through on-site interviews with relevant personnel and the review of existing financial and patient access data. One day is assigned to reviewing Patient Access performance, and another full day to reviewing Patient Financial Service operations.

Within Patient Access, the following functions will be reviewed: Pre-registration, staffing, scheduling, information systems, points of access, patient privacy, waiting times, up-front collections, compliance, insurance verification, contract knowledge, customer education and authorization for service.

Within Patient Financial Services, the following functions will be reviewed: Management key indicator reporting, staff education, staff resources, staff motivation, workload prioritization, bill-hold barriers, coding issues, late charges, information system deficiencies, electronic billing use, mail returns, credit balances, collection policies, and secondary billing.

Upon completion of the on-site reviews, Plante & Moran will summarize our findings and opinions in a cost/benefit analysis. All of our recommendations for process improvement of the existing service will be prioritized according to level of effort and return on investment to you. This information will be provided in a matrix to assist you in making implementation decisions. Plante & Moran can also provide implementation assistance on any of our findings.
