Case Study: Hartville Homes, Inc.

Hartville Homes, Inc., located in Hartville, Ohio, is a not-for-profit organization that provides care to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental retardation. Hartville Homes, Inc. manages Hartville Meadows, Lafayette Meadows (five MRDD facilities or homes with a total of 67 beds), and Hartville Residential Services, a subsidiary that provides services to individuals in the Individual Options Waiver and private homes.

With the closing of Apple Creek and Springview Developmental Centers, Hartville Homes had the opportunit y to assist those moving from the developmental centers into smaller community homes. With changes in the CAFS program, the Lafayette Meadows facilities are in the process of developing and opening a Day Habilitation Program in West Lafayette, Ohio.

A consistent theme in the field of services to the developmentally disabled is "change." According to Mr. Reeves, "We approach change with a sense of optimism. Some change can be difficult and should never be entered into lightly. We view our current circumstances as an opportunit y to improve the qualit y of services we provide to our residents."

"It’s challenging to keep up with the ever-changing healthcare environment. We rely on Plante & Moran’s expertise to help the management team and board make sense of the new requirements, as well as consulting on strategic plans to make critical business decisions," explains Mr. Reeves.

As part of the organization’s long-term diversification strategy, Hartville Homes’ management team is always open to discussions with other facilities that have a similar mission.
