Should You Consider an IT Assessment?
School Advisor , 2006 Issue No. 2

Does your current information technology (IT) staffing structure accommodate your district’s technical, operational, and support needs? Is the technology properly managed and administered?

An IT assessment can help you answer these questions. Moreover, it can help your district save money, enhance your support function, increase network performance, and enhance security.

The assessment focuses on three main areas: the technology itself (how old is it, how is the network configured, are appropriate security controls in place), administration (do you have the right policies and procedures in place), and organization (is technology centralized/decentralized, how are you using contractors, etc.). The scope is extensive — the assessment may cover as many as 84 items — and, we provide benchmarking data to help you determine how you compare to other districts within the state. The end result is a variety of recommendations to help your district save money, increase network performance, and enhance security.
