Tax Guide: Unearthing Buried Treasure
Universal Advisor, 2007 Issue No. 3
Welcome to Universal Advisor’s 2007 Year-End Tax Guide. This year’s Tax Guide was coordinated by Plante & Moran’s Emerging Tax Issues Committee (ETIC), a group of tax specialists who provide analysis and tax-planning solutions for current developments and trends. This year, we’ll focus on several tried and true tax-planning ideas to help you find buried treasure in strategies you may not be using.
The pirates of old were known for hiding and later uncovering their buried treasures that included “pieces of eight,” jewelry, gold, and anything else of value. (For those unfamiliar with “pieces of eight,” they were the nickname for Spanish dollars because they could be cut into eight pieces as a way of making change. If you’ve ever used the term “two bits” in place of a quarter, you’re referring to two bits out of eight, or a quarter).
We’re confident that you’ll find the information in this year’s Tax Guide helpful. We’ve included year-end reminders, tax-planning ideas, hints from Polly (what would a pirate be without his trusty parrot), and strategies to avoid walking the plank for your business or personal use. Changes resulting from the Small Business and Work Opportunity Tax Act and the Tax Relief and Health Care Act are also covered.
If you have any questions regarding any of the tax ideas covered here (or any of Polly’s hints), don’t hesitate to call any of the land lovers featured in this year’s Tax Guide. In the meantime, get out your shovel and start digging. Buried treasure lies ahead!
