While there will be continued political posturing and debate regarding the amount required to stabilize the system following President Bush’s address to the nation last night, the proposed fiscal policy response is a crucial step to bringing stability back to the credit markets. The effective functioning of these markets is critical to the success of any economy, and it is apparent that most, if not all, of the global central banks understand the importance of this issue. Given that developments continue to move rapidly and are being interpreted and assimilated into the market, we will continue to monitor the fiscal policy response and other developments in this current situation, not only here but across the globe.
