With more than 27 million square feet of office space and more than 7 million square feet of retail and industrial space, Southfield is Michigan’s undisputed business center. Known as “the center of it all,” it’s home to more than 9,000 businesses, including Plante & Moran.
More than 450 staff members and independent financial advisors work at our Southfield headquarters, with another 150+ at our “Southfield East” location a mile down the road. (As you can probably intuit, it’s located a mile east of our main building and is home to P&M Corporate Finance, Plante Moran CRESA, and a variety of our internal functions.)
We like to say that we’re “more than just audit and tax,” and our Southfield main office is a great example. We specialize in a variety of consulting areas, from operations improvement, litigation, business valuation services, investigative services, and technology selection and implementation, to financial support, restructuring & turnaround consulting, organizational development & personnel assessment. Southfield, Michl, is also the main hub of Plante Moran Financial Advisors.

Plante & Moran has been named one of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” the past 11 consecutive years. In 2009, Plante & Moran was the leading accounting and management-consulting firm on the list.
For the second consecutive year, Leadership Development magazine named Plante & Moran to its annual list of the Top 100 Leadership Development Programs. We ranked first in the “small-to-midsize organizations” and “large consulting groups” categories.
Community Involvement
We genuinely care about our communities, and our Southfield, Mich., location is no exception. Individually and collectively, our staff donates thousands of hours annually to help make our communities better.
In 2007-2008, the firm adopted Quilts for Kids as our firmwide initiative. Quilts for Kids exists to transform discontinued designer fabrics into quilts that are donated to children with life-threatening illnesses as well as battered & abused children. We had a goal of 15 quilts—1 per U.S. office—which would then be donated to the organization at the June 2008 Firm Conference.
We exceeded our goal by more than 100 percent. The quilts were made using T-shirts that Plante & Moran staff acquired through their individual community service activities (i.e., Race for the Cure, Habitat for Humanity, etc.). The Quilts for Kids organization was thrilled with our donation, and P&Mers were thrilled to be able to participate in such a worthy cause.
For 2008-2009, Plante & Moran offices are working with an organization to send care packages to U.S. troops fighting overseas. Each office is donating snacks, condiments, games, and toiletries and working together to assemble these care packages to send them off to our troops.
Sustainability
All of us at Plante & Moran have long prided ourselves on being responsible corporate and community citizens, so it’s only natural that we adopt an even stronger environmentally friendly and sustainable approach going forward. We’ve made significant strides in the areas of building design and furnishings, energy efficiency, paper conservation, and environmental awareness/waste reduction. Here are just a few of the initiatives currently in place:
- Each staff has work tools that allow remote access and document sharing from different locations. This has reduced gas consumption and provided greater flexibility while improving collaboration.
- We’re increasing our use of recycled paper products, including our firm letterhead and new firm brochure.
- We sponsor hazardous waste days, where all staff can bring in these items from home and safely dispose of them.
