Strategically located between Chicago and Detroit in Southwest Michigan, Kalamazoo has a 125-year history in life science and advanced
manufacturing. The region is home to scores of highly successful companies, including Stryker Corporation, Pfizer, Parker Hannifin Hydraulics, Perrigo, Whirlpool, Kellogg, and Plante & Moran, which is conveniently located off I-94. There we offer comprehensive financial and business consulting services as well as real estate advisory services to Kalamazoo businesses as well as those in Battle Creek, Southwest Michigan, and Northern Indiana.
Kalamazoo’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship has fostered the creation of the world-renowned Kalamazoo Promise college scholarship program; the Southwest Michigan Innovation Center, a life science accelerator that has launched more than two dozen start-ups; the $50 million Southwest Michigan First Life Science Fund, the nation's largest community-based venture fund; and First Angels, an angel network providing seed money to young entrepreneurs. It’s a great place to live and work.
Plante & Moran has been named one of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” the past 15 consecutive years.
In March 2013, Plante & Moran was named one of West Michigan’s “101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For” for the eighth consecutive year. We’re honored to be recognized as a leader within our community.
In 2008, the firm was also cited as one of 18 “Great Companies for Millennials” by HRE magazine, and for the second consecutive year, Leadership Development magazine named Plante & Moran to its annual list of the Top 100 Leadership Development Programs. We ranked first in the “small-to-midsize organizations” and “large consulting groups” categories.
Plante & Moran and all of its firm locations, including Kalamazoo, Mich., genuinely care about our communities. Individually and collectively, our staff donates thousands of hours annually to help make our communities better.
This includes everything from our Back-to-School drive, where we collect school supplies for the less fortunate children of the community, to participating in United Way, to purchasing clothes and toys for needy families during the holidays. In addition, each year we have a “community involvement day.” In 2008, some of us helped out with serving food for Kalamazoo’s Ministry with Community or the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Others worked at a fun fair for the Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
This year, our biggest ongoing project is participating in the firmwide effort to support our troops fighting overseas. So far, Plante & Moran in Kalamazoo has sent 24 boxes containing magazines, food, and other supplies. We’ve also held a number of fun events, including “jeans” days, potlucks, and candy fundraisers, and donated proceeds to the troops.
All of us at Plante & Moran have long prided ourselves not only on our reputable consulting services but also on being responsible corporate and community citizens. It’s only natural that we adopt an even stronger environmentally friendly and sustainable approach going forward. We’ve made significant strides in the areas of building design and furnishings, energy efficiency, paper conservation, and environmental awareness/waste reduction. Here are just a few of the initiatives currently in place:
- Each staff has work tools that allow remote access and document sharing from different locations. This has reduced gas consumption and provided greater flexibility while improving collaboration.
- We’re increasing our use of recycled paper products, including our firm letterhead and new firm brochure. As we update existing literature and add new pieces, we’re using recycled content and Forest Stewardship Council certified paper where possible.
- We provide staff with filtered versus bottled water, and disposable cups have been phased out and replaced with ceramic mugs.
- The office has ample natural daylighting.
