Plante & Moran Female Partners Deliver AWESOME Programs
New Initiative Harnesses the Power of Women Partners to Benefit Communities with Plante & Moran Offices
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — The women partners of Plante & Moran, PLLC have developed some AWESOME programs – and non-profits in the 18 Michigan, Ohio and Illinois communities where the firm has offices stand to benefit.
Two years ago, the female partner group at one of the nation’s largest accounting and business advisory firms formed Amazing Women Engaged to Support Outstanding and Meaningful Endeavors, or AWESOME. Since then, the partner group has raised more than $65,000 to support breast cancer in honor of two partners who were battling the disease and for Habitat for Humanity.
Earlier this spring, 11 women from eight offices in Michigan and Illinois spent a day swinging hammers to help renovate a Habitat for Humanity home in Grand Rapids for a single mother with two daughters. Two years ago, 26 women partners walked or ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Detroit.
“AWESOME got its start two years ago after a small group of women partners brainstormed about a charity project during a weekend retreat,” recalled Kelly Springer, a partner in the Grand Rapids office and member of this year’s event planning committee. “Guided by Plante & Moran’s core values and their own desire to make a difference, they wanted an initiative with wide appeal.”
Planning committee member Sue Perlin, who is a partner in Southfield, noted: “We are in a unique position to come together and do something meaningful in the firm and in our communities. Because we have 18 offices in the Great Lakes region that are fairly spread out, many of the women partners may not see each other regularly or spend time together. The activities we choose through AWESOME mean something to us as a partner group and give us time to bond personally and professionally.”
The partner group is working to finalizing its charitable initiative and community location for 2011. The goal has been 100 percent participation or donation by the women partners at Plante & Moran – and to date, AWESOME has an excellent track record.
“The women partners at Plante & Moran feel we can raise awareness and substantial funds for worthy causes,” added Perlin. “We want to showcase that Plante & Moran is a firm full of spirited, compassionate and generous women.”
