Plante & Moran Receives Advanced QSA Certification from PCI Security Standards Council

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan — Plante & Moran, PLLC, one of the nation’s largest accounting and business advisory firms, has obtained QSA (Qualified Security Assessor) certification from the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council.

The firm has also been an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV) since 2009. These certifications allow Plante & Moran to help organizations ensure they are complying with the new data security standards released by the PCI Security Standards Council. The QSA designation is the highest level of certification available from PCI and, combined with the ASV certification, allows Plante & Moran to be a one stop shop for all PCI compliance requirements, including those affecting the world’s largest merchant card users.

According to Raj Patel, Partner and leader of Plante & Moran’s information security team at Plante & Moran, the certification program from PCI helps credit card vendors minimize and prevent fraud.

“The PCI compliance program developed by the Card Payment Brands helps the industry combat the rising number of credit card breaches and the millions of dollars lost annually,” says Patel. “This program requires any organization that stores, processes or transmits cardholder data to comply with PCI’s security standard. Failure to meet standard requirements can result in substantial fines, legal fees and even the loss of accepting credit card payments.”

Patel continues that obtaining PCI compliance is not a simple process and may require organizations to meet up to 240 requirements.

“Because of the rigor of the process, it is difficult for even a large organization to have the expertise in-house to properly determine compliance,” explains Patel. “Plante & Moran helps organizations understand which PCI requirements they are subject to and guides them through their compliance assessment. Once all facets of the assessment are complete, the firm provides clients with a report which displays summaries of total PCI deficiencies found, possible remediation paths for each deficiency, and an overall PCI compliance status. Upon completion of the compliance process, the firm assists their clients with the submission of the proper information.”
