New round of online voting opens to move top 10 organizations to final round to compete for $25,000 donation; first round scored over 320,000 votes
Blackman Kallick Plante Moran, the newly-merged sixth largest accounting firm in Chicago, today announced the second round of online voting opens at 8 a.m. CDT for its Chicago Community Champions donation contest.
Twenty Chicago-area not-for-profit organizations have advanced to continue to compete for a $25,000 award to raise visibility for their causes and support the local Chicago community through arts and culture, education, youth development, environment, social services, or community development.
The 91 Chicago-area organizations that participated in the first round of voting accumulated over 320,000 votes, which amounts to more than four times the number of seats at the 2012 Olympic Stadium in London, according to the official London visitor website, VisitLondon.com. The top 20 not-for-profit organizations that advanced to the second round are:

- Seguin Services, Inc
- Great Books Foundation
- Erasing the Distance
- Generation Mirror
- Chicago Architecture Foundation
- Center for Economic Progress
- Special Olympics Illinois
- United Way of Elgin
- Bernie's Book Bank
- Children's Research Fund (f/k/a Medical Research Institute Council)
- Inspiration Corporation
- Chicago Symphony Orchestra
- Atia's Project Ladybug Fund
- Advocate Charitable Foundation
- Trilogy Inc.
- Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4)
- Cathedral Shelter of Chicago
The votes do not accumulate from the previous round. The top 20 candidates will start round two with zero votes. The public is encouraged to vote to move an organization to the final round by completing an online ballot. The ballot can be found by visiting bkmerger.plantemoran.com
and clicking “Chicago Community Champions.” The website contains brief descriptions of each organization and how they would use the $25,000 if they won. The complete list of participating organizations and final standings from round one can now be accessed on the Plante Moran Facebook page.
The second round of voting will close at noon CDT August 10. The third and final round of voting for the top 10 candidates will open at 8 a.m. CDT August 13 and close at noon CDT August 17. The winner will be announced on August 20.
