Plante Moran Partner Receives National Being a Difference Award From NASBA Center for the Public Trust

Southfield, Mich. - Plante Moran, one of the nation’s largest certified public accounting and business advisory firms, announced that Beth Bialy, CPA, leader of the firm’s governmental practice, received the prestigious Being a Difference award from the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy Center for the Public Trust.

Bialy was presented the award by CPT Founder, David Costello and CPT President, Alfonzo Alexander at a breakfast banquet at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. hosted by the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants on Jan. 22.

Bialy, who joined Plante Moran in 1985 and became a partner in 1998, is based in the firm’s Southfield office. She leads a team of 200 governmental auditors who specialize in local government auditing and consulting. Bialy coordinates the ongoing audit engagements and A-133 compliance audits for more than 400 cities, counties, townships and special purpose government entities.

The CPT’s Being a Difference award was established in 2006 and honors four individuals annually for their exceptional contributions to ethical leadership in business as well as community impact. Recipients are selected by a national committee focused on identifying individuals who go beyond their expected responsibilities to be a positive influence in their professional and personal endeavors.

Bialy was nominated by Plante Moran Managing Partner Gordon Krater. According to her colleagues, she has consistently demonstrated unwavering integrity. Bialy has also served as chair of the Michigan State Board of Accountancy under the appointment of two governors. Under her leadership, the MSBA added whistleblower protection policies and made unlicensed activity a felony.

“I nominated Beth because of her leadership not only within Plante Moran but also in the numerous organizations she is involved with,” Krater said. “She is committed to personal growth; she is incredibly efficient and balanced in both her challenging career and roles outside of work and extremely deserving of this award.”

Bialy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Wayne State University. She is a founding member of Plante Moran’s Women in Leadership initiative; a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy, Michigan State Board of Accountancy – immediate past chair, Government Finance Officers Association, Ohio Government Finance Officers Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Wayne County Treasurers Association, Michigan Government Finance Officers Association board member, Michigan Association of Public Employee Retirement Systems and Metropolitan Affairs Coalition. She is often asked to speak to clients, their councils and boards on a variety of topics specific to governments, such as the Michigan Association of Public Employees Retirement Systems.
