I’m one of six kids who lived and worked on a 1,000-acre vegetable farm, and I wouldn’t change a thing. I like to tell people I started working when I was 12!

I’ve always been drawn to the accounting profession. Some people say they love math, and that’s where their career began. For me, it started with a bookkeeping class in high school — it just clicked. Since then, I’ve focused most of my professional career on serving the higher education and not-for-profit industries.

This is because our higher education and not-for-profit clients offer the best challenges. Many not-for-profit organizations have significant funding challenges. I like to help them make wise business decisions and become better stewards for their donors and communities. I love working with our higher education clients because it’s a different kind of challenge, and it’s a big payoff when I help them succeed. Outside of audit work, I enjoy opportunities to speak and advise those in the industry. I’ve presented at the Purdue Accounting Forum and workshops for the Central Association of College and University Business Officers.

I’m also passionate about my community, and I think it’s important to be active. Currently, I’m a board member of Calhoun Christian School and the Battle Creek Country Club, and I’m also on the finance committee of the Battle Creek Area Habitat for Humanity.

I like to balance my professional life with a healthy mix of family and sports, and sometimes, a little of both. If I’m not watching my kids play their favorite sports — gymnastics and basketball — I might be on the golf course, or at home with a good book.

I have a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University.
