The Senior Care Imperative:  How Bon Secours Health System Is Embracing It

We’ve all heard the statistic that 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 every day for the next 19 years.  The growing elderly share of the U.S. population is causing many acute care organizations to reconsider their relationship with this segment of their communities. Bon Secours Health System, based in Marriottsville, Md., is a $3.3 billion not-for-profit Catholic health system in six states, primarily on the East Coast.  Bon Secours St. Petersburg Health System CEO Karen Reich will join Plante Moran Strategy and Operations Partner Betsy Rust for a discussion of how Bon Secours is putting in place the care programs required to keep this population healthier longer while also making it work financially.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will:
  • Examine the multiple demographic segments within America’s senior population and their unique care needs.
  • Identify the variety of innovative programs Bon Secours and other traditionally acute-care providers are implementing to care for the growing senior care population and how those programs are funded.
  • Recognize strategies used to collaborate with and invest in post-acute care partners, including skilled nursing facilities and certified home care agencies.

Presenters:  Betsy Rust, Plante Moran Partner and Healthcare Strategy and Operations Group Co-Leader; Karen Reich, CEO, Bon Secours St. Petersburg Health System
