First issued in April 1992, SAS 70 has become increasingly prevalent in the service industry segment, providing a highly effective and globally accepted guidance for reporting controls at service organizations. In April 2010, AICPA issued Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) to replace SAS 70 and converge with international standards. SSAE 16 will become effective for reports for periods ending on or after June 15, 2011, with earlier implementation permitted.
