“Leadership is not winning; it’s modeling.” When it comes to my career or raising my family, it’s not about the victory. It’s about serving as an example, developing the team, and focusing on our long-term goals.

Experience

As leader of our tax solutions practice, I assist with creative tax minimization strategies including the R&D tax credit, transfer pricing, and cost segregation. My clients range from owner-managed to large global companies, and they have one thing in common — they’re all looking for ways to increase cash flow by reducing their tax liability.

When organizations can increase their cash flow, they can reinvest in their businesses — upgrading equipment, improving employee compensation, and investing in research and product development. I’m passionate about helping them achieve these type of business objectives.

When I look back on my career at the firm, I’m proud of how my team has contributed to the growth of our tax practice. We’ve done this by attracting diverse and talented staff members who happen to be, in Plante Moran parlance, relatively jerk-free. Our clients appreciate this as much as we do.

Most days, I can be found speaking with clients and prospects on the topic of tax credits, incentives and deductions. I’m a member of the Michigan Bar Association, and I’m on the board of directors of Orchard: Africa. I have a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and a law degree from Michigan State University, with a focus on taxation.

Between client engagements and vacationing, I’ve traveled to four continents. When I’m home, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three kids, golfing, skiing, and giving my time to charitable groups.
