Margarete is a partner with Plante Moran’s Financial Services Group. She is a regional tax leader who specializes in assisting insurance companies maneuver the statutory and GAAP requirements related to deferred and current income taxes. She also helps companies efficiently comply with tax regulations while minimizing tax liabilities.
Margarete is known for her energetic approach while helping her clients make sense of a challenging tax world. Her practice focuses on the taxation of insurance companies, including property and casualty, health, and captives. In addition to noninsurance affiliates Margarete also serves individual clients and other service companies. She recently assisted an insurance client in analyzing the benefits and opportunities of a merger versus a sale of one of its subsidiaries.
Margarete is regularly asked to speak to clients and at industry conferences. Recently, she was part of a panel discussion regarding captive insurance companies at the 2014 Capital Strategies and M&A Forum and also served as co-chair for the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association’s (IASA’s) CFO Roundtable (held in conjunction with the annual educational conference and business show). Margarete has spoken at both national and state level IASA conferences on captive insurance companies, state taxes, and providing property and casualty insurance tax updates.
Margarete has a bachelor of arts degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in tax from Grand Valley State University.
