Headshot of Deborah Burton

I’m an enthusiastic sports fan; baseball and golf are my favorites. As a kid, I was certain that I’d play for the Detroit Tigers one day. Of course, I noticed there were no women on the team yet, I remained hopeful.

I have more than 30 years of experience providing tax advice to manufacturing and distribution companies with an emphasis on internationally active organizations. I think of myself as a problem-solver — I’m cool under pressure and can sift through a maze of information and opposing viewpoints to identify the real issues, develop solutions, and move people forward. My expertise includes entity selection and structuring, tax planning for the acquisition and sale of businesses, resolution of employment tax matters, and representing taxpayers before the IRS and various state agencies.

I’m currently serving as the Auburn Hills office tax director and, in that role, have been blessed with the opportunity to help talented young professionals grow and become our future leaders.

I’m often asked to speak to different industry groups on a variety of tax topics, most recently to the American Payroll Association and the Production Engine Remanufacturers Association. I belong to the AICPA and the Michigan Association of CPAs. I serve on the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce board of directors, as the advisory team chair for Grace Counseling Center of Detroit, and I’m a member of the Walsh College tax advisory board. I received my B.S. in accountancy and my M.S. in taxation from Walsh College.

When I’m not helping clients minimize their tax liabilities, I enjoy golfing, kayaking, bicycling, and taking long walks — being outdoors makes me happy.
