I own and operate my own airboat. I originally bought the camouflage-colored beauty for duck hunting, but it’s also a fun and unusual way to explore the marsh and shallow water areas around the thumb area of Michigan.

Experience

As the partner-in-charge of our real estate practice, I work with partners across the firm serving a broad array of real estate clients.  I also specialize in housing and community development, where I work with investors, syndicators, developers, project owners, and management companies to maximize the positive impact of tax credits, opportunity zones, and other incentives.

Clients appreciate my extensive knowledge of low-income housing tax credits, new markets tax credits, historic tax credits, the opportunity zones program, and HUD financing. Considered a close partner to many clients, I can draw on my deep industry expertise to counsel them at a high level and provide solutions to complex problems.

Within Plante Moran, I’m known for my ability to lead a highly collaborative team of professionals who work in multiple disciplines within the industry. For nearly a decade, I was the leader of the housing and community development (HCD) group, during which time we grew 400 percent and experienced a significant growth of the team, our client base, and service offerings available to our clients. The HCD practice distinguishes Plante Moran as one of the few firms to be recognized nationally for its expertise.

If I’m not working, then I’m doing the things that a dad of three nearly-grown children does, like moving them into and out of dorms and attending youth sports. If I’m not spending time with my kids, then I’m likely to be outdoors, either hunting or fishing. I also enjoy spending time with friends and my extended family.

I’m a frequent speaker at state and national conferences on financial incentive topics, such as structuring historic tax credit deals and the challenges and benefits to mixed-income and mixed-use developments. I’m a member of the AICPA and the Michigan Association of CPAs. I also serve as the board president for the Michigan Housing Council and board chair for Habitat for Humanity – Capital Region.
