As the firm’s primary technical specialist for public education, I lead the K-12 professional standards team, focusing on quality control, accounting, and auditing. I provide technical assistance and training to staff and in-depth technical expertise to clients. I have more than 30 years of experience in compliance auditing and have extensive audit knowledge on Michigan School District financial statements, federal programs, and bond/sinking fund transactions under the Treasury’s audit guide.
I’m also a partner and part of the firm’s leadership team within our single audit practice working with public education, municipalities, higher education, not-for-profits, real estate, hospitals, and for-profit companies receiving federal assistance. My clients appreciate the personal attention they receive from me. Because I deeply understand this unique service area, I really come to know the individuals involved in the entities I serve. I love that every day I get to work with highly motivated individuals and provide a broad level of services in a continually changing client environment.
For my entire career, I’ve serviced clients in the financial services sector, developing a specialty in credit unions. As a partner serving credit unions, my experiences include financial statement audits, internal audits, merger transactions, operations assessments, and assessments of a broad range of credit union growth, transition, and transaction opportunities. I enjoy working with my clients as they focus on proving outstanding service to their members.
The Michigan School Business Officials recognized me with its President’s Award. I’m frequently asked to speak to clients, organizations, and conferences regarding fiscal and regulatory matters affecting public education. I’m a charter member of the National Single Audit Roundtable and serve on the executive committee of the AICPA Government Audit Quality Center and the planning committee of the AICPA National Government Accounting and Auditing Conference. I belong to the Michigan Community Development Association and the Association of Government Accountants, and I’m a Certified Government Financial Manager. I received my accounting degree from Michigan State University.
