As the leader of the firm’s exempt organizations tax practice, I advise a wide variety of exempt organizations on tax matters to help them remain compliant, adopt best practices, and minimize their tax liabilities. I assist clients with understanding and managing their tax exposure regarding unrelated business income tax, state and local taxation, reporting of alternative investments, reasonable compensation/private inurement issues, planned gift issues, and all areas of Form 990, 990-T, and 990-PF reporting.

With my deep knowledge in this field and a strong background in individual and for-profit tax issues, I can effectively serve a broad range of my clients' issues. My clients are primarily educational institutions, private foundations, arts and cultural institutions, social service organizations, trade associations, and social clubs.
In the 30 years I’ve been with the firm, I count the success of team members whom I've mentored as my greatest accomplishment — seeing them grow over the course of their careers is very rewarding. I’ve also been involved in various initiatives, including heading up the firm's first tax education committee and serving as an office tax director. Both of those roles provided great opportunities to work with and learn from a variety of people across the firm.
I’m a dedicated thought leader for our non-profit clients. Most recently this has included a summary of the impacts of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on exempt organizations and a webinar discussing the strategic use of functional expense allocations. I also speak regularly to clients and outside organizations on a variety of tax issues related to exempt organizations. I belong to the AICPA and the Michigan Association of CPAs.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, including hiking and boating, as well as reading and spending time with my family. I’m also very involved with my church where I’m a current board member, the co-chair of the finance committee, and a member of the endowment committee.
