In his role as principal, Joe brings over 15 years of principal investment and asset management experience to Plante Moran Real Estate Investment Advisors (REIA). He specializes in real estate acquisitions, development, asset management, and dispositions.
Joe provides clients with expert guidance regarding property valuation, risk analysis, capital allocation strategy, asset value maximization, hold/sell analysis, and leasing decisions to get the best return for their investments. He has served clients from nearly every real estate asset class, with a particular focus on the industrial, retail, and healthcare industries. He has delivered strong performance throughout various economic and industry conditions.
Joe’s previous experience includes working as an asset manager with Ventas Inc. and Kimco Realty Corporation. At Ventas, Joe managed a portfolio of skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living facilities with an annual net operating income of $60 million. He successfully negotiated leases on 65 percent of the portfolio, extending the average lease term and increasing NOI. At Kimco, Joe co-managed a $2.8 billion liquidating real estate portfolio. He devised creative solutions to optimize the value of each asset and successfully returned $500 million of equity to Kimco via disposition, partner buy-out, and refinance over a 24-month period.
Joe was also the director of financial analysis at First Industrial Realty Trust, where he led a large acquisition team that successfully underwrote and acquired $1.8 billion of industrial development sites and developed over 17 million square feet of industrial facilities.
Joe is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where he earned a BA in economics with a concentration in finance, mathematics, and physics. He is a licensed real estate broker in the state of Illinois and fluent in Spanish.
