Partner CPA, Chief Financial Officer Southfield

In 1993, my dad and I built a six-car garage to store and repair my collection of Chryslers. We drew the plans, poured the concrete foundation, and did all the carpentry, roofing, electrical, and siding together.

Experience

As Plante Moran’s CFO and lead partner with the internal accounting team, I’m responsible for the leadership and the operations of the accounting and finance department, and the stewardship of all the partners’ assets.

I like to say we have a best-in-class accounting team, and I consider myself lucky and blessed to work with a group of people who are family to me. This department frequently exceeds client expectations with its final service or product, and I’m proud of how I’ve played a role in developing the staff and the future leaders of our team.

My role is unique in that the firm itself or, more accurately, the people who comprise the firm are my clients. I’ve always approached my responsibilities to them with a servant leader’s attitude, meaning I care and I always try to help — no matter what’s asked. With that approach, I’ve been awarded many opportunities because I truly seek to help those in need. When colleagues tell me I’m a good listener or a good problem-solver, I know I’m doing my job well.

I’ve presented financial and other information at the semiannual partner meetings and the firm’s management team meetings for nearly 20 years. I’m a certified Financial and Operations Principal, meaning I can do SEC financial reporting for our broker-dealer entities. I was the first staff member to pass this exam. I’m a member of the AICPA, the MICPA, and the Financial Executives Institute.
