A partner in Professional Standards with Plante Moran, Joan specializes in accounting, auditing, ethics, professional liability, and quality control issues.
Governor Pat Quinn appointed Joan to the Illinois Public Accountant Registration Committee of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, which she currently chairs. This committee advises the Department’s director on licensing matters for the State.
She has recently completed her service on the Professional Practice Executive Committee of the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ), an autonomous, nonpartisan, nonprofit group based in Washington, D. C. affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). She also has served, on various subcommittees and task forces of the CAQ and has participated in various roundtables for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, U.S. Government Accountability Office, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Joan is a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society (the Society). Joan previously served on the board of directors of the Society, and various committees of the Society, including the Women's Executive Committee, the Ethics Committee, as chair of the Accounting Principles Committee, and in addition as the founding chair of the Society's statewide Accounting and Assurance Services Steering Committee. She was a lecturer in accounting for the University College program of Northwestern University from 1986 through 1991. Joan received both her B.S. in accounting and Masters of Accounting Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.
