In his role as senior vice president of Plante Moran Realpoint (PMR), formerly Plante Moran REIA, John Foss serves as a trusted advisor to private and institutional clients. Extensive experience in all major real estate asset classes, a command of the intricacies of asset management, and a keen eye for smart hold/sell strategies and financing options enable John to develop and implement asset- and portfolio-level strategies that align with client objectives.
John spends much of his time helping investors identify objectives for their real estate portfolios, build a strategy to reach those objectives, and oversee implementation. He is known for his ability to identify issues and opportunities with asset cash flow to best position assets for a desired outcome. John has been responsible for the direct asset management of more than $200 million of investment real estate.
John also helps clients develop and implement acquisition and disposition strategies that maximize their return on investment. He tries to reach the best possible outcome for his clients through the full transaction process — from strategy identification to underwriting to due diligence coordination and market analysis to the direct negotiation of terms and deal structure (including joint ventures). In his time at the firm, John has been involved in more than $400 million in transactions, including debt procurement on behalf of asset management and transaction clients.
John is an active member of the Urban Land Institute’s Michigan chapter and is a co-chair of the ULI Michigan’s Young Leaders Group. Additionally, he is a recent graduate of the Robert C. Larson Center for Leadership program. John received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor.
