Little Sisters of the Poor completes Holy Family Home redevelopment

July 31, 2025 / 1 min read

Plante Moran Living Forward is excited to celebrate the opening of the Little Sisters of the Poor’s Holy Family Home senior care facility after a transformative campus redevelopment.

The Little Sisters of the Poor, a Roman Catholic congregation devoted to serving low-income seniors, recently celebrated the grand reopening of Holy Family Home in Southwest Philadelphia. The ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 24, 2025, marked the culmination of a multi-year transformation that reimagined the sisters’ aging campus into a modern, mission-aligned community focused on dignity, wellness, and aging in place.

Constructed in 1973, Holy Family Home needed renovations and was too large to support the sisters’ hands-on, familial approach to care. Faced with the decision to either leave Philadelphia or rebuild, the sisters chose to stay and renew their commitment to the community. Their vision: a smaller, more personal campus that reflects the founding charism of Saint Jeanne Jugan.

To bring this vision to life, the Little Sisters engaged Plante Moran Living Forward (PMLF) as their strategic planning and development advisor. Beginning in 2019, PMLF led the sisters through a strategic planning and predevelopment process to create a business master plan to reposition the campus from a traditional long-term care model to one that emphasizes independent living and aging in place. With the plan in place, PMLF provided owner’s representation services throughout the three-phase redevelopment.

The newly redeveloped Holy Family Home features 37 independent living apartments, 18 private care suites, a small infirmary, and a 15-room convent for the sisters. The campus also includes a renovated chapel and dining spaces, administrative offices, and enhanced staff support areas. The result is a state-of-the-art facility that fosters community, spirituality, and wellness. Residents now enjoy brighter, more accessible spaces, landscaped gardens, and a renewed sense of home.
