Plante Moran Cresa helps library meet needs of community by reducing costs of expansion

Novi Public Library had outgrown its facility and wanted to expand on its existing site, but funding was a challenge.

The challenge

Novi Public Library had outgrown its facility and wanted to expand on its existing site. After the previous attempt to approach the community for a millage increase was defeated, the library engaged Plante Moran Cresa (PMC) to assist in analyzing the previous proposed program and create a new plan that met facility needs and maximized public funds.

The solution

PMC reviewed the library’s original project plan and identified cost savings of $3 million — without impacting proposed library programs. PMC then modeled operational costs for a new facility and identified options for further cost reduction.

The benefit

The team conducted research to gauge community acceptance of a new project, which was then approved. The library then proceeded with the $16 million, 60,000-square-foot expansion.
