The challenge
Novi Public Library had outgrown its facility and wanted to expand on its existing site. After the previous attempt to approach the community for a millage increase was defeated, the library engaged Plante Moran Realpoint (PMR), formerly Plante Moran Cresa, to assist in analyzing the previous proposed program and create a new plan that met facility needs and maximized public funds.
The solution
PMR reviewed the library’s original project plan and identified cost savings of $3 million — without impacting proposed library programs. PMR then modeled operational costs for a new facility and identified options for further cost reduction.
The benefit
The team conducted research to gauge community acceptance of a new project, which was then approved. The library then proceeded with the $16 million, 60,000-square-foot expansion.
