Highlights from the Real Estate Investor Sentiment Report

The New Year presents a great opportunity for real estate investors, or those considering investing into direct real estate ownership, to evaluate the objectives and goals for their portfolio in the upcoming year.

Investors should be aware of two key facts that marked a shift in 2017’s market dynamics:

  • Deal volume declined 31% compared to a year prior (as of the end of Q3).
  • Pricing continued to rise (9% year over year) on the back of further cap rate compression.

In 2018, Plante Moran REIA expects the commercial real estate investment community to focus on strategies that increase yield to investors. Two notable strategies for this are improving cash flow and reaching into secondary and tertiary markets.
