Experience

For more than 30 years, Marty has been a leader in the real estate investment community, serving a distinguished list of both private and institutional clients. In 2014, he collaborated with Plante Moran to form Plante Moran Realpoint Investment Advisors (PMRIA), formerly Plante Moran REIA, where he serves as president. PMRIA now has offices in Southfield, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; and Denver, Colorado.

Throughout his career, Marty has managed a variety of debt and equity real estate transactions across multiple product types. From deal identification and due diligence through financial analysis, deal structuring, and negotiation of terms, Marty has a wealth of experience helping clients achieve their objectives. In addition to transactional capabilities, Marty has an extensive asset management background that includes assisting clients in developing plans for underperforming assets, determining appropriate hold/sell strategies, and directing acquisitions.

Marty was previously a vice president with Alex Brown Realty (ABR), a private equity real estate firm located in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was responsible for Midwest acquisitions. Prior to his time at ABR, Marty spent more than two decades in the investment real estate industry, including more than 10 years as the founder and president of Milestone Realty Services, an SEC-registered real estate advisory firm that served numerous public pension funds. Marty’s background also includes financial and investment banking experience with the Financial Services Group of Cushman & Wakefield.

Marty holds an MBA from the University of Michigan, where he graduated with distinction. He also holds an undergraduate degree in accounting and finance from the University of Michigan – Dearborn. Marty is a certified public accountant (CPA), a designation he received while working as a tax specialist at Ernst & Young in Detroit, Michigan. Marty is also a licensed real estate broker in the state of Michigan.

Marty was a founder and director of The Matthew M. West Foundation and a board member of Lighthouse of Oakland County. He presently serves on the Real Estate and Insurance Committees for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
