Throughout his career, Marty has directed loan and equity originations including deal identification, financial analysis and negotiations, due diligence procedures, agreement negotiation, and documentation drafting. He brings a highly sophisticated perspective to monitoring portfolio investment performance, and in conjunction with clients, determines appropriate hold/sell strategies for each asset. He has extensive experience overseeing disposition transactions from initial marketing of properties to offer analysis, and sales negotiation through final closing documentation. Marty has also directed portfolio strategy, acquisitions, and dispositions for multiple public pension funds.
Marty was previously a vice president with Alex Brown Realty (ABR), a private equity real estate firm located in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to his time at ABR, Marty spent more than two decades in the investment real estate industry, including more than 10 years as the founder and president of Milestone Realty Services, an SEC-registered real estate advisory firm. Marty’s background also includes financial and investment banking experience with the Financial Services Group of Cushman & Wakefield.
Marty holds an MBA from the University of Michigan, where he graduated with distinction. While at the university, he received the Henry S. Miller Award for the Top 25 Outstanding Real Estate Students in the Country as determined by the Urban Land Institute. He holds an undergraduate degree in accounting and finance from the University of Michigan - Dearborn.
Marty is a licensed real estate broker in the state of Michigan and a member of the Urban Land Institute. Marty also earned a certified public accountant (CPA), designation while working as a tax specialist at Ernst & Young in Detroit.
Marty was a founder and director of The Matthew M. West Foundation and a board member of Lighthouse Community Development, an organization committed to providing affordable housing to low- and moderate-income families. He was also formerly an adjunct professor of real estate at Wayne State University.
