Partners Carole McNees and Curt Hurd, and Principal Marie Stiegel have been appointed to key roles within the AICPA.

We’re pleased to announce that three members of Plante Moran’s assurance team have been appointed to various roles within the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The AICPA is the leading professional organization for Certified Public Accountants in the United States, dedicated to upholding high standards in the accounting profession through advocacy, education, and volunteer leadership. This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional expertise, dedication, and leadership that the following leaders bring to the accounting profession:

Carole McNees, partner, assurance, joins the AICPA Auditing Standards Board as a newly appointed board member. The ASB carries out its mission by developing auditing, attestation, and quality management standards that inspire public trust, contributing to the development of high-quality international auditing and assurance standards. Carole is looking forward to collaborating with her fellow board members to address the evolving challenges in auditing and is committed to developing standards that uphold the integrity of our profession while remaining practical and operational for auditors to implement.

Carole will serve a one-year term, with potential for reappointment for up to two additional terms.

As Curt Hurd, partner, assurance, steps into the leadership role as vice chair of the AICPA Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) Technical Issues Committee, he’ll play a key role in providing insights to standard setters throughout the profession about the challenges private companies and their auditors face. He’ll be collaborating with his fellow committee members to tackle the technical challenges and find solutions that support the continued growth and success of our profession. Curt will use his experience working with clients and teams across a variety of industries to provide a comprehensive viewpoint and support the committee’s initiatives.

Prior to this appointment, Curt served as a committee member on the PCPS Technical Issues Committee for a three-year term.

Marie Stiegel, principal, has been appointed to serve as a member of the AICPA State and Local Government Expert Panel, a one year-term beginning in May 2025 with the potential for reappointment for up to two additional terms.

The Expert Panel exists to serve the needs of the AICPA members on financial reporting matters as well as audit and attest matters relevant to audits of state and local government financial statements. It also plays a significant advocacy role by analyzing and commenting on exposure documents of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and other proposals affecting state and local governments. Through her participation, Marie will collaborate with other panel members to proactively address emerging issues and gain insight into GASB’s agenda, utilizing this information to benefit our engagement teams and clients.
