Alex Engebretson
Principal, CPA

As a principal, I manage assurance engagements for the service industry, assisting clients with their financial reporting requirements, evaluating technical accounting issues, and implementing new accounting standards. I specialize in private equity and venture capital-owned technology, professional service, and business service companies, including public accounting firms, SaaS providers, software developers and IT resellers, security companies, and managed service providers. I have extensive experience with business combinations, revenue recognition, debt and equity financing transactions, and complex capital structures.

Clients appreciate my practical and collaborative approach to engagements and my ability to work through complex technical accounting issues. I was attracted to a career in public accounting because I enjoy helping clients, training and developing staff, and testing my problem solving and critical thinking skills. Around the office, colleagues know me for my energy, accountability, thoughtfulness, and drive.

With over a decade of experience, one of my greatest accomplishments has been leading the firm’s first audit of a public accounting firm. I actively contribute to several leadership committees, including a practice optimization committee focused on efficiency improvements for the assurance practice and a technology vertical leadership committee dedicated to growing the firm’s technology practice. Additionally, I completed a technical fellowship with our professional standards team.

I graduated with a BBA and a Master of Accounting from the University of Michigan. I’m a member of both the AICPA and MICPA. I also sit on the finance committee of a nonprofit in Ann Arbor. In April 2016, I won the Elijah Watt Sells award for my performance on the CPA exam.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife traveling, golfing, and reading.
