Andrew Buthker
Principal CPA, MSTExperience
As a principal on our wealth management tax team, I serve as a trusted advisor to high-net-worth individuals and families, guiding them through complex tax and financial planning matters. I oversee client engagements, review and deliver high-quality technical work, and provide sophisticated planning strategies involving trusts, charitable giving, estates, and multigenerational wealth structures.
Clients appreciate my strong technical expertise and practical, relationship-focused approach to complex tax matters. I was drawn to this career for the opportunity to work closely with individuals, families, and their advisors to navigate complicated planning decisions and advise on long-term strategies. With more than a decade of experience, my greatest accomplishment has been helping to build and grow our wealth management tax practice. Around the office, I’m known for my responsiveness, accountability, and ability to collaborate across service lines to deliver comprehensive solutions.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in accountancy from Ferris State University and a Master of Science in taxation from Grand Valley State University. I’m a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and I’m a part of the Estate Planning Council of Grand Traverse Area. I also serve as treasurer of the Traverse City Philharmonic, a nonprofit dedicated to enriching the music community through arts education and engagement. Recently, I presented on individual tax planning and related tax law changes at our 2025 Year-End Webinar Series.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and experiencing the beauty of Northern Michigan with my wife, who also works at the firm. Since we get to spend some time together at work, you could say that my wife and I have really mastered the integration of “work-life” balance.
