John is a partner serving Plante Moran’s manufacturing & distribution, service, and private equity industry groups. He has extensive experience performing accounting and operational assessments for clients and developing recommendations for improved financial reporting, efficiency, and control.
John is known for his no-nonsense approach to focusing on the fundamentals during times of change and uncertainty, while keeping a constant eye on the horizon. He has more than 25 years of experience serving privately held, public, and private equity-owned manufacturing & distribution and service organizations with an emphasis on financial reporting. Additionally, he specializes in audits of family businesses. He also advises clients on a variety of financial, business, and tax-related matters facing middle-market manufacturing and distribution companies.
Most recently, John has advised clients on tax strategies in an environment of rising income taxes. He has also helped clients position themselves for a transaction by advising companies on seller due diligence matters.
John has led several webinars for Plante Moran, including one presented in June 2012 regarding state taxes for software companies, focusing on key issues and trends impacting the software industry, state and local tax considerations and implications, and tax strategies to gain a competitive advantage. Additionally, in November 2011, John moderated a webinar regarding equity-based compensation. In November 2012, John served on a panel discussion related to optimism and innovation for middle-market technology companies.
John has a B.A. in accounting from DePaul University and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management. He is also a Certified Financial Planner® and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
