I have a Double-R endorsement on my license and pull my fifth-wheel and boat in tandem, which comes to an over-length of 73 feet.

Experience

As a co-leader of the firm’s greater Michigan real estate and construction practice, I help clients understand where their business stacks up against the industry to facilitate strategic planning initiatives to drive their business to be best in class and ensure they have full access to banking and bonding needs. I help manage the entire audit and review process from planning, direct supervision of our teams, ensuring quality performance of audit and review procedures, and timely delivery to the customer. I provide consulting to executive leadership teams to set best-in-class goals and mentor controllers to CFOs.

My experience includes multientity consolidations, M&A transactions, deferred compensation arrangements, revenue recognition, deferred taxes analysis, and benefit plan audits with a specialization in ESOPs. Most of my clients are commercial-based, but I have a high focus in the construction and private equity industries. I also focus on the manufacturing and distribution, and service industries.

I have a unique experience for a CPA, as I have field experience in the construction industry. I worked for roofing, plumbing, electrical, and framing contractors. I can swing a hammer, sweat pipe, and pull some wire. This gives me the unique ability to understand business operations.

Clients appreciate that I care about their business and take the time to understand how they work and why they make money. I ask the question beyond the question. Colleagues know me for having a vested interest in their career and caring for their individual growth. I’m also known as “the lunch guy.”

I was drawn to this career because of the relationships with people and providing practical solutions to complex issues. I have more than 10 years’ experience and am most proud of building and mentoring the next generation of leaders.

I was previously the president of Mid-Michigan CFMA chapter. I belong to AICPA and MICPA. I’m often asked to speak to clients and industry conferences such as the Mid-Michigan CFMA and AGC of Michigan about topics of interest to construction companies, including new accounting standards updates, company strategic planning strategies, and succession planning. I received my B.S. and M.S. in accounting from Michigan State University.

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with my wife and three kids. We enjoy boating and camping; you can always find us at Burt Lake during the Fourth of July.
