Headshot of Alisha Taranek.

I was born in Utah and love the mountains, but I’ve never actually been downhill skiing. My family moved to Michigan when I was young so I consider this my home, but I do miss those beautiful mountain views.

Experience

I provide tax compliance and planning services to a wide range of middle-market, privately owned, and private equity-owned organizations, with a focus on companies with significant multistate and international operations. I help clients tackle technical issues to manage risks and identify potential tax-savings opportunities. My clients are in a variety of industries including manufacturing and distribution, consulting, professional services, and marketing.

I was attracted to a career in tax because I love the problem-solving skills required to handle technical issues. I’ve had a passion for teaching from a young age and considered an education degree. While I ultimately decided to pursue a career in accounting, I have many opportunities to train and develop my team members, which helps fulfill my love for teaching.

My clients appreciate the personal interest I take in getting to know their businesses. I make it a point to touch base regularly throughout the year to establish a close relationship and assist with technical issues as they arise. I’m known as the unofficial art collector around the office, as my daughters love to draw and color pictures for me. I’ve built up quite a collection on my office wall that colleagues like to check out and see if any new “exhibits” are on display.

With nearly 15 years of professional experience, I’m a member of the AIPCA, Michigan Association of CPAs, and Michigan Women's Tax Association. I received both my B.B.A. and M.S. in accountancy from Eastern Michigan University.

When I’m not helping clients, I enjoy spending my time with my husband and four kids, watching Disney movies, and crafting with my daughters.
