Timothy Deters

As a principal and leader in the firm’s transaction advisory services (TAS) group, I focus on reducing financial risks for clients and uncovering unknowns during the diligence process, while also providing tailored solutions to overcome challenges on each unique deal. Much of my work involves complex acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic assessments with past experience in financial and operational performance improvement initiatives and corporate turnarounds and restructurings. I specialize in lower to middle-market private equity transactions, especially platform investments, and many of my clients are in the manufacturing, plastics, distribution, residential and commercial services, and environmental and waste management industries. Additionally, I help lead the firm’s private equity focus in the Southeast and the TAS team’s efforts to leverage AI to improve efficiency for our team and clients.

Clients appreciate my holistic approach to developing actionable solutions for financial and operational challenges during diligence as well as my focus on communicating concise, timely, and relevant updates on their deals.

I have over a decade in the industry and consider one of my greatest accomplishments to be sharing my unique experience with junior team members for their professional growth. I enjoy helping staff think critically about solutions to complex issues and understand the impact they have on their clients’ organizations and stakeholders.

I’ve been nominated for several awards with ACG and M&A Advisor, and in 2020 was awarded M&A Advisor’s Out-Of-Court Restructuring of the Year ($100 million - $1 billion).

I’m a CPA and hold a B.A. and M.S. in accounting from Michigan State University. I’m also a member of the MICPA and actively contribute to boards and committees of community and special needs non-profits.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my three children, especially outdoors on walks, at the park, or on a playground. I’m an avid golfer and love traveling to places off the beaten path to experience new cultures, food, and people.
