I’m a big fan of a good practical joke because I really believe that laughter is the best medicine. I love to make work fun, and a surefire way to do that is to laugh and find opportunities to make others laugh.

I believe that championing our “We care” culture starts at the top of our organization — because it’s not just what we say, it’s what we do. As the partner in charge of human resources, I specialize in recruiting, retaining, developing, and promoting our firm’s talent. In other words, I’m known as the people leader for the firm.

Our co-founder Frank Moran wanted Plante Moran to be the “Mayo Clinic of accounting firms,” meaning, at one end of the building, clients are lined up to receive our services while at the other, outstanding professionals are lined up looking to join our ranks. That starts with creating a best-in-class environment. Whether that’s benefits, professional opportunities, work-life balance, or other supports, my team and I are responsible for creating, implementing, and ensuring policies that make Plante Moran a great place to work.

My colleagues have told me they appreciate my transparency and my willingness to listen. I think these two characteristics are critical when you work with people in an industry that’s always going through changes. Change can be difficult for some, but it also presents so much opportunity. That’s why, when we roll out new processes, I’m always asking, “How do we best support people to learn and develop and reach their full potential through this?” Whether I’m having one-on-one conversations or sharing in town halls, I believe the connections we make are the cornerstone of our culture.

In my nearly 25 years with the firm, I’m proud to have built a team that puts culture first. Those in human resources are the “keepers of the culture.” No matter how much we’ve grown, we continue to remain a firm where people are at the core of everything we do.

For my role in creating a high-trust culture that’s a great place to work for every staff member, I received the “Great Place to Work For All” Leadership Award in 2018. I’ve obtained the Senior Professional in Human Resources® (SPHR®) certification.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as possible with my family. I’m so proud of my kids, and I enjoy experiencing life with them.
