Although I’m left-handed, I play golf right-handed.
Robert Piwonski
Partner, CPA

As a key member of the firm’s international tax group, my focus is on empowering clients to conduct business globally by providing support through international tax planning, structuring, and compliance strategies. I primarily serve manufacturing and distribution and service industry clients, including owner-managed, private equity, and public companies with both inbound and outbound foreign investment. In my role with the firm’s national corporate tax group (ASC 740), as well as consulting on complex corporate tax matters, I also provide clients and colleagues with technical support, planning, and guidance on financial statement considerations for income taxes.

With more than a decade of experience in public accounting, I’ve advised clients on significant global business initiatives, including international expansions, acquisitions, restructurings, compliance transformations, and post-closing integration. Clients appreciate my dedication to their success and the way I become an extension of their team throughout the process. I’m drawn to international tax because it consistently presents new challenges. I’ve often found that the most rewarding opportunities are the ones that push me outside my comfort zone, which is great because this career provides endless opportunities to learn, grow, and help clients solve complex business issues.

One of my greatest accomplishments has been balancing building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues who rely on me for guidance on complex matters while also helping to mentor and develop the next generation of professionals. Around the office, I’m known as a resource for complex tax matters and for taking on challenges that push both myself and those around me to grow. My colleagues know that they can count on me to collaborate, share knowledge, and help work through difficult issues.

I’m often invited to speak on the latest emerging complex international tax matters at Praxity global conferences, TEI conferences and chapter events, and external webinars. I earned both my B.B.A. in accounting and finance and my M.S. in accounting from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and I’m a licensed CPA.

Outside of work, I enjoy improving my golf game, traveling, and catching the latest sporting events or shows.
