Headshot of Dan Kapala.

When in the minor leagues with the New York Yankees, I received an award for being the best in the system at backing up bases. I wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or a sign it was time to hang up my cleats.

Experience

As a leader on the firm’s private equity team, I help our private equity clients with financial onboarding and reporting with a focus on fair value measurements and valuations. My expertise includes valuation services, financial reporting, intangible assets, and equity compensation and incentive plans.

My clients appreciate that I bring a holistic approach to financial onboarding and integration and that I understand the bigger picture. By combining strong analytical skills, technical acumen, and deep industry knowledge, I provide the insights and guidance to help clients make informed financial decisions and achieve their business goals.

What I love about our practice is the opportunity to advise investors, shareholders, and management teams on valuation and transactional issues. My proudest moments are when I add value during the negotiation process through effectively identifying and assessing risk, modeling tax-savings strategies, or in simplifying post-close accounting matters.

I belong to the ACG Detroit Chapter (where I sit on the programs planning committee), the American Society of Appraisers, and the AICPA. I received my B.A. in economics with a supplementary major in computer applications from the University of Notre Dame.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I try to stay active, whether that’s playing on one of the firm office’s softball team or sports with my kids.
