Headshot of David DeCew.

I was accepted to the Culinary Institute of America and had plans to become a chef before choosing to study accounting. I love to cook, and am always tinkering with recipes to create something unique and delicious for my family.

Experience

I provide state and local tax consulting services and tax minimization strategies to family-owned, multistate clients in the service and manufacturing industries. I’m also a member of the service industry tax leadership team where I help to guide the industry around state and local tax issues.

I was attracted to this career because I enjoy helping businesses navigate complex tax issues so they’re free to focus on their operations. My clients appreciate that I distill complicated technical state and local tax issues into everyday language to help them address their unique tax situations with their business goals in mind. Around the office, I’m known for always having a recommendation for a good bottle of wine.

I have 15 years of professional experience and am a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. I’ve spoken internally at Plante Moran trainings and at the Ohio Tax Conference on state and local tax concerns for inbound companies. I received my B.A. in accounting from Oakland University and M.S. in taxation from Walsh College.

When I’m not helping clients, I enjoy golfing, bowling, cooking, and spending my time with my family.
