Headshot of Michael Scheetz

I’ve been attending Michigan State football games since I was two months old. One of the coolest experiences as an MSU fan was making the trip to the Rose Bowl with my parents and sister. I still get goosebumps remembering it.

Experience

I help family-owned, closely held, and private equity clients save money in taxes by taking advantage of deductions, credits, and deferral opportunities. Many of my clients are in the manufacturing, construction, and service industries. I specialize in tax planning, tax structuring, entity selection, and strategy.

More than 15 years ago, I began my career with Plante Moran as an intern. After completing four internships, I started with the firm full-time and never looked back. Some of my greatest accomplishments with the firm include mentoring and developing staff, helping to grow the firm’s tax practice, and identifying ways to save money and bring value to our clients. On a tax due diligence project for one client, I identified a tax issue that ultimately saved them $1 million in an acquisition.

Oftentimes, I’m asked to speak to clients, their boards, and at industry conferences about tax topics like tax planning and tax reform. I’m a member of the AICPA and the Michigan Association of CPAs. I received my B.A. in accounting and my M.S. in accounting from Michigan State University.

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my family, traveling, coaching my kids’ sports teams, and golfing.
