Although I am a big-time sports junkie and love watching virtually any sport, my favorite sport to play is basketball.
Val Shammami
Principal

As a principal in our business valuation practice, I provide valuation services for a variety of purposes, including financial reporting, tax planning, and transaction advisory. My specialty is financial reporting valuation, particularly for middle-market and private equity-backed organizations. In this capacity, I assist clients with purchase price allocations, stock-based compensation, goodwill and intangible asset impairment testing, and other technical valuation needs for financial statement audit purposes. My professional experience spans a range of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, service, healthcare, real estate, and agriculture, among others.

My clients appreciate my ability to simplify complex issues and keep processes moving — especially when deadlines are tight. By working closely with various stakeholders to align expectations early, I ensure a smoother, less stressful process, which builds trust and long-term relationships. I enjoy how each engagement introduces new companies and industries, keeping my work dynamic and intellectually rewarding.

Around the office, colleagues know me for being a go-to resource on technical matters, often joking that I hold “office hours.” I’m also known for my sweet tooth and for keeping the team well-fed with snacks and surprise lunches. Whether it’s by mentoring or sharing a treat, I try to foster a collaborative, supportive, and fun environment where people can thrive.

I have over a decade of experience and earned a dual B.S. in economics and mathematics from the University of Michigan. I’m a member of the American Society of Appraisers and hold the Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) designation. I also spoke at a Praxity Forensic and Valuation conference on goodwill impairment testing under IFRS and U.S. GAAP, focusing on valuation methodologies, recent accounting updates, and the impact of current economic conditions on impairment analyses.

Outside work, I spend time with friends and family, try out new restaurants, watch sports, or head to the gym.
