In an effort to simplify financial reporting for employee benefit plans, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) has issued two new Accounting Standards Updates (ASUs) and provided clarifications on existing guidance. These extensive changes will affect all non-governmental benefit plan financial statements (but do not affect the reporting of benefit plans in the plan sponsor’s financial statements). This webinar will include the following ASUs:

  • ASU 2015-07 – Fair Value Measurement (Topic 820) Disclosures for Investments in Certain Entities that Calculate Net Asset Value per Share (NAV) (Or its Equivalent)
  • ASU 2015-12 – Plan Accounting: Defined Benefit Pension Plans (Topic 960), Defined Contribution Pension Plans (Topic 962), Health and Welfare Benefit Plans (Topic 965); Part I: Fully Benefit-Responsive Investment Contracts (FBRICs), Part II: Plan Investment Disclosures and Part III: Measurement Date Practical Expedient

This webinar will cover the required changes in detail and will provide guidance on implementation. We will also provide practical advice and example disclosures, including changes in presentation.

Learning objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize when the changes required by ASU 2015-07 and ASU 2015-12 are applicable
  • Understand disclosure and presentation changes as a result of the new ASUs and FASB clarifications
  • Proactively and effectively implement the new ASUs, including utilizing the provided sample disclosures, in order to realize the benefits and efficiencies of the simplification standards
