The 2017 Tax Act (commonly referred to as the “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017”, or “TCJA”) was signed into law in December, 2017 after a stunningly brief whirlwind of legislative activity. While the major focus of the TCJA was to reduce the tax burden on corporations, there are several provisions that impact tax-exempt organizations in fairly significant ways. There has been much informal discussion between practitioners on these provisions, and numerous comment letters issued to the IRS and Treasury, however, no authoritative guidance has yet been provided, nor are we likely to see significant guidance soon. This session will update you on the current thinking regarding these changes, and help you understand what steps you should be taking now to prepare for the impact of the changes.

At the conclusion of this session participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the provisions of the 2017 Tax Act that apply to exempt organizations.
  • Discuss how these provisions may be relevant to your organization.
  • Define the steps to take now, and in the future, to plan for, pay for, and properly report the impact of these provisions.
