What’s new in state and local tax? Here are a few updates on activities within California, Colorado, Delaware, Kansas, and more.

California

  • Maximum extension period for filing partnership returns increased

Colorado

  • Colorado sales and use tax notice and reporting requirements for retailers became effective July 1, 2017

Delaware

  • Franchise tax increases enacted

Illinois

  • Income tax rate increase, domestic production activities addback, and other changes enacted
  • Budget bill creates and extends sales and use tax exemptions

Kansas

  • Estimated tax payments for nonwage business income addressed

Michigan

  • Department announces availability of ESA statements for certification
  • Bulletin regarding tax treatment of rental income issued

Ohio

  • Budget bill eliminates some personal income tax brackets, makes other changes
  • Budget bill expands sales and use tax nexus provision, authorizes tax holiday, and revises local taxes
  • Amnesty, cigar tax enacted; Property tax appeal process, other provisions amended

Oregon

  • Market based sourcing adopted

Texas

  • State supreme court grants review of multistate tax compact apportionment election case

Wisconsin

  • “Investment” defined for capital gains deferral, other changes enacted
