As college and university admissions talko.png teams become more geographically dispersed, they find it more important to stay in touch. Up until now, that effort has led to individual interactions across regions at a time that is usually most conducive to the organizer, with video or conference calls that typically fall short of expectations. That is, until Talko arrived.

Created by Lotus Notes inventor and former Microsoft chief software architect Ray Ozzie, Talko “brings messaging, calling and conferencing together in a simple way that lets you talk when and how you want”. To users, this means conference calls can be conducted from a mobile phone that rings up everyone in a designated team. Or one in which a team member records a call, then other members comment at various points during the recording for others to hear when they listen later.

Recorded versions of calls are nothing new, but the way users can interact with the information post-call is. If time is limited, reviewers of the call can check out bookmarked moments to hit the highlights rather than listen to the entire recording. They can also see any text or pictures that were shared during the call. Talko allows users to view who’s talking, reducing the confusion when multiple people have points to share.

It’s hard to envision a future that doesn’t involve listening to on-hold music while waiting for the organizer to arrive. But if Talko has anything further to say about it, we have no doubt that future will be one we’ll all want to hear.
