People are surprised to learn that a risk manager enjoys riding motorcycles.

Director, General Counsel

Experience

As the firm’s general counsel, I’m responsible for managing the firm’s legal risks and opportunities. I regularly consult with and advise firm partners and staff on matters related to client service, the application of professional standards, contracting, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment, and other legal issues.

My clients appreciate that I’m a strategic thinker who isn’t afraid of the nitty-gritty details in search of the most optimal solution.

Prior to joining Plante Moran, I worked at a national litigation firm representing accounting firms and their partners as well as banks, their officers, and their directors. Additionally, I spent nearly four years at the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, where I served as Special Counsel to the Chairman.

I have more than 20 years of work experience in the professional services industry, with the majority of those years dedicated to practicing law. I’m often asked to speak during industry conferences on topics related to the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. I graduated magna cum laude from The George Washington University Law School and earned my B.S. in business management from Brigham Young University.

Around the office, colleagues know me for chasing my five kids to their various academic and sports activities and for my love of baseball and motorcycles. When I’m not at work, I enjoy coaching my sons’ baseball teams, adventure motorcycling, and cheering on the Washington Nationals. I also lead our church’s youth group for 12- to 18-year-olds.
