As an audit partner in our national insurance services practice, I provide audit, tax, and business consulting services to nonpublic insurance companies, self-insured pooled funds, and not-for-profits. Many of my clients are general liability, property and casualty, health, and life insurance companies. In addition, I serve K-12 education clients. This allows me to be involved with the public sector in various communities throughout the state of Michigan. I’m experienced with districts, charter schools, bond compliance, and federal compliance.
My first accounting class showed me this career would demand the best use of my technical skills. Over time, a few critical factors — the people, the constant change, and the desire to be a part of such a great firm — have turned the attraction into a life-long love. My ability to execute and volunteer for projects, run engagements, mentor staff, and network all while balancing the personal side of my life is an experience that is priceless.
With more than 15 years of public accounting experience, the firm has allowed me to explore different service areas and participate in many projects that were out of my comfort zone, resulting in so many great accomplishments throughout my career that it’s hard to pick just one. One of the best though would be meeting my husband on one of my first assignments, which has resulted in our two beautiful children.
I’m often asked to speak to clients, their boards, and at industry conferences, such as the Insurance Accounting & Systems Association (IASA) and Michigan School Business Officials (MSBO) about topics of current interest to leaders, including governance best practices, technical updates, and soft skills focused on leadership, time management, and women in the workplace. My favorite presentation was speaking at the National IASA conference on “Almost Naked Leadership.”
I belong to the AICPA, the Michigan Association of CPAs, the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, CMSBO, MSBO, and IASA (where I’m a Michigan chapter board member). I received my B.B.A. and my M.S. in accounting from Western Michigan University.
I spend my free time with my family and friends. I have a 31-foot RV that I travel around the country in (and, yes, I drive it) with my husband, two kids, and two dogs.
