Headshot of Jean Hackstock

My husband and I honored our Scottish heritage when we were married. He wore a kilt from his family’s tartan, and we participated in a traditional handfasting ceremony before exchanging our vows.

Experience

I help real estate and construction companies reduce their tax burden and stay on top of industry regulations, trends, and financial best practices. Many of my clients are general contractors or involved with heavy/highway, specialty trade, and multi-entity commercial real estate. I’m also a firmwide technical leader with our employee benefit plan group. In that role, I specialize in multiple plan audits with complex benefit structures and hard-to-value investments for defined contribution, defined benefit, 11-K, health and welfare, and leveraged employee stock ownership plans.

With nearly 15 years at the firm, my greatest accomplishment has been mentoring amazing individuals. Seeing others grow and advance in their careers is something I’m proud to be a part of. I’m humbled by those I’ve learned from and honored to pass on the knowledge I can.

Because of my experience, I’ve frequently spoken at the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA) annual conferences on topics such as corporate succession planning, strategies for successful growth, and how to attract, develop, and retain talent in the construction industry.

I belong to the AICPA, inForum, the Michigan Association of CPAs, the Association of General Contractors (AGC), the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), the Construction Association of Michigan, and the MITA. I received my B.S. and M.S. in accountancy from Walsh College.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family (especially my husband, Jason), reading and, occasionally, pretending to golf!
