Kellie Ray Goines

My twin sister, who is also a partner at Plante Moran, and I are lifelong Detroit Tigers fans. We were at Comerica Park when Armando Galarraga pitched a near-perfect game, but the first-base umpire infamously robbed him of perfection. The emotion of that moment is why I love the game.

Experience

I lead the firm’s not-for-profit practice and offer audit, tax, and consulting assistance to not-for-profits so that they can focus on their mission and their constituents. Leaders of behavioral health and social service organizations, religious institutes, private foundations, arts and cultural institutions, and private schools come to me when they’re looking for peace of mind. They appreciate the fact that I speak their language and understand their mission, and I admire their passion and dedication. Being able to help our clients increase the impact they have on their communities and constituents is something I find moving and rewarding.

Around the office, I’m known for my commitment to diversity. Since 2010, I’ve been a partner advocate for PM Pride, the firm’s resource group for LGBTQ staff and allies. I also serve as a partner mentor in our Women in Leadership program, the firm’s initiative for supporting and developing women leaders.

My greatest accomplishment at the firm is the success of my team. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing their excitement as they experience success, whether it be through attaining a promotion, helping clients resolve challenging issues, or completing stretch assignments. I love seeing the passion that my team has for serving our mission-based clients.

I belong to the AICPA and MICPA, and I serve as the chair of the board of directors of Covenant House Michigan.  I am also an alumna of Leadership Oakland XX. I speak frequently at conferences and seminars about technical issues, board governance, and leadership development. In addition, I’m often asked to speak with clients and their boards on topics such as design and implementation of internal controls, financial reporting matters, and changes in accounting standards. I have a B.B.A. and a Master of Accounting from the University of Michigan.

I spend most of my free time with my three children. We like bowling together and playing with our rescue dog, Dez. When I can, I love to get away for solo vacations.  My favorite solo destinations so far have been London, Barcelona, and Aruba.
