Michelle Goss

As the national practice leader of Plante Moran’s insurance services industry, I bring nearly 30 years of experience in audit, tax, and business consulting to SEC and non-public insurance companies, self-insured pooled funds, not-for-profits, and charter school academies. I’m passionate about helping clients—from small organizations to large enterprises—navigate challenges and leverage opportunities to achieve their goals. My experience includes SEC and statutory reporting, NAIC Model Audit Rule compliance, GAAP reporting, and financial due diligence for companies looking to expand through acquisition or merger opportunities. I work closely with clients to ensure they meet regulatory reporting and governance requirements while positioning themselves for long-term success.

I genuinely enjoy what I do and always put myself in my clients’ shoes to ensure their satisfaction. I’m proud to have served as a previous president of the Michigan Chapter of the Insurance Accounting & Systems Association (IASA), where I worked with the board to deliver high-quality conferences for accounting and IT professionals in the insurance industry. I’m also a member of the AICPA, MICPA, and Michigan Public Risk Management Association. In my community, I’ve served as a board member of the Lansing Community Board of Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children and families.

I earned my B.S. in business administration with a major in accounting from Central Michigan University, graduating magna cum laude. Outside of work, I love watching my youngest son participate in high school football and basketball, relaxing by the pool when the weather permits, staying active at the gym, traveling, and enjoying the outdoors.
